Plato Last Favorite Catherine 2. Platon of Teeth

On November 26, 250 years from the birth of Platon Zubova - a man, whose name is unlikely to go to the story, not be His patronage of Ekaterina II herself. When they write about her favorites, the main attention is usually given to Gregory Orlov and Gregory Potemkin - and not surprisingly, because they played a prominent role not only in the personal life of the sovereign, but also in the socio-political life of the country. What can not be said about Platon Zubne - he was called a pale shadow of the predecessors. But the Empress itself, the last favorite of which was younger than it for 38 years, did not think so ...

Plato of the teeth came from the family of small nobles, his father was the provincial vice-governor. Catherine drew attention to the lieutenant of one of the Guards regiments, when he was 22 years old, and she was 60. He became her last favorite and the first of those who were her official chosen one on Potemkin's protection, but thanks to the efforts of his opponents - Saltykov and Naryshkina .

The young favorite had a huge impact on an aging empress. They say, once in the theater gave a performance on the Molver, and the actress said from the scene: "That a woman in 30 years old can be in love, let! But in 50?! It is intolerable! " After these words, Catherine rose, said: "This thing is stupid and boring!" - and retired from the hall. She was convinced that in the 60s aged was quite attractive. The court ladies strengthened this confidence, repeating it that the teeth were completely crazy about the teeth.

Most contemporaries argue that the youth was the only advantage of the last favorite of the Empress. Apparently, nor a brilliant mind, nor strategic thinking, nor other talents, in contrast to his predecessors, did not possess. He wrote about him: "With all his might torment himself over the papers, there is no fluid mind, no extensive abilities, the burden of its real forces." Ebug Bezborodko, an experienced diplomat, in a letter to Vorontsov noted with indignation: "I am a golden - I clean the fact that the dirtiffs of the teeth ... This child is with good manners, but not a long mind; I do not think that he long lasted in his place. However, it does not occupy me. "

In the meantime, the Empress itself did not lose hope to raise the new statesman from their last favorite. However, all its efforts were in vain: his political projects were separated from reality, and it was the most familiar order: "Do, as before." Catherine called Zudda "My Cute Child Poor" and recognized Potemkin: "I returned to life like a fly after a winter hook ... I am fun and healthy again." He did not share her enthusiasm, but with the presence of the favorite, she resigned.

After the death of Potemkin, the influence of Plato Zubov at the court in the court. He switched to "inheritance" many of those positions who had previously occupied Potemkin, he became the owner of a 20 millionth state and was appointed General-Feldshmeister, Novorossiysk governor-general, head of the Black Sea Fleet. True, three assistants were engaged in all the affairs instead of him: altesti, mushroom and ribas. During the tender, bribery - Velmazby built it into a queue to ask for help in solving various issues. And the young favorite swept the power and actively proteffled his numerous relatives.

Charles Francois Masson, the author of "secret notes about Russia of the reign of Catherine II and Paul I", wrote: "Fraging in chairs, in the most obscene negligee, stuck a little finger in his nose, with eyes, aimlessly striking in the ceiling, this young man, with a face Cold and inflated, barely awarded to pay attention to others. He was amused by the foolishness of his monkey, which was jumping on the heads of low lests, or talked to his joke. And at this time, the elders, under which he began to serve as a sergeant - Dolgoruky, Golitsyn, Saltykov and everyone else was expected to bring him down his eyes to humiliate to his footsteps. Of all the bauls of happiness, no, except for the zunk, was not so punished and externally, and internally. "

After 7 years, after the death of his patroness, the plato of the teeth left the highest light and settled in his estate. Together with the brothers, he participated in the conspiracy and murder of Paul I, but soon it was on the side of political life. In 54, he finally decided to marry - his chosen was his chosen, poor and dormant beauty-polka. A year later, Plato of the teeth died, leaving the spouse a multimillion state.

Last Favorite: Platon Teeth

The inevitability of decay

The unexpected death of Gregory Potemkin in the autumn of 1791 became an important milestone in the history of the reign of Catherine II. It turned out that all the severity of the board goes now on her one and the death of the light intense. Care of Potemkin from life coincided with the process, inevitable for each policy, even the smartest and experienced. Having passed the period of lifting and heyday, the talent of it fades, and it enters into the period of rotting, decay and death. No matter how intelligent, power, the far-sighted Empress, in old age she began to change the mind, will and sense of measure. The symbol of the last period of the reign of Catherine was the shameful domination at the courtyard of Plato's brothers and Valerian tooths.

Walk through

Platon of teeth - twenty-year Salopai, horse guardian, young, ignorant, but beautiful, muscular, with high forehead, beautiful eyes. He was nominated by the enemies of Potemkin in a peak to him. After all, before that, almost all young favorites of the Empress were creatures of light and danger to him were not presented.

In the summer of 1789, the teeth defeated the authorities to allow him to command the convoy, who accompanied Catherine II during her trip from St. Petersburg to the Tsarskoye Village. He was so conquered near the head of the sovereign, which was noticed by her, got to her for lunch, awarded a benevolent conversation. A few days later, one of the courties listed into her diary: "Zakhar (Cameryman Catherine) suspects the guardian seconds-Rothmistra Plato Alexandrovich Zudov ... He began to walk through the top", that is, through the personal chambers of the sovereign. After two weeks, the teeth were granted by a colonel and a lump-adjutant and occupied the rest of the previous favorite, Dmitrieva-Mamonova. The young man rapidly entered the Favor to the aging Empress, and she began to write about him Potemkin as a "newbie" - "student", which appeared from her.

Potemkin initially not particularly alarmed. He believed that at least the new favorite did not receive, as all the previous, approval, he does not represent much danger. Moreover, the teeth sought to Plemkin. Catherine wrote a brighter: "I am very pleased, my friend is that you are satisfied with me and a little newcomer, it is a very cute child, not stupid, has a good heart and hopelessly not to be spoiled. Today, today, the pen in the pen composed you a cute letter, in which it turned out how nature created him. " Plato became the corner of Kavaleargrad and General. Potemkin did not mind, but still alerted. He began to convince Catherine that her favorite was a man's cracked, not standing. Usually she listened to the opinion of Potemkin. As then wrote the teeth, "the Empress always went towards his desires and was simply afraid of his asking for a recovery spouse. She only loved me and often pointed to Potemkin so that I would take an example from him. " But then she rested and throw a "little newcomer" refused.

Another "diet"

In August 1789, Catherine informs the brightly something interesting: Plato "has a younger brother (Valerian, eighteen years old. - E. A.), which is here on the guard now, in place it; The only child, the boy written, he is in the horse guard by the lieutenant, help us with time to bring it into people ... I am healthy and cheerful, and how the fly came to life ... "It is necessary to understand that both" younger "also became an empress" student ". A week later, Catherine sends Potemkin Courier with a story about the brothers of the tooth: "I am (obviously, Plato. - E. A.) And his brother his behavior is very pleased: these are the most innocent souls and they are complicated to me often: a big very non-neall, the other is an interesting child. " From the letter of Catherine from September 6, Potemkin became known that the "child" was amazingly quickly spoiled: "Does not give to the death of a convoy hussar? Write, as you think ... Decity to our nineteen years old, and then you will be known. But I really love this child, it is tied to me and crying like a child if it is not allowed to me. " Potemkin did not have time to solve the fate of the Hussar convoy, as he was notified by September 17: "Childish, Valerian Alexandrovich, I released a lieutenant colonel to the army and he wants to go to the army, where soon and go."

Hour from the hour is not easier! The reason for the urgent trial of the "DeTity" is prosaic: the senior came to a smaller, and not for reason. Since then, "Chernoshi" and "Round" Plato remained in the palace one ... Potemkin did not hold Valerian with him - a light spy was not needed. He sent him to St. Petersburg with the news about Taking Suvorov Izmoil, while, according to legend, he asked to convey the sovereign as follows: "I am healthy in everything, I have only one tooth, I will come to St. Petersburg, I'll take it away." The hint was more than transparent. But I didn't have time to eat the little one who prevented him "tooth" did not have time, death was ahead, to a considerable joy of brothers to the tooth.

Replica from the scene

What happened to Catherine? After all, we know that she was not Messalina or Cleopatre. Yes, of course, under the influence of age in the psychology of the Empress, apparently, there were some changes. But this is not the main thing. Her forever young, thirsting for love and warmth of the soul played a bad joke with her.

Curious story that happened in the Hermitage Theater October 12, 1779. In the spring of this year, Catherine "celebrated" for the work desk painful for her fiftieth anniversary. And that day, October 12, she looked along with all the Pieces of Moliere. The heroine of the play said the phrase: "That a woman at the thirty years can be in love, let him! But in sixty?! It is intolerable! " The reaction of the sidden in the bed of the sovereign was instantaneous and nearby. She jumped up with the words: "This thing is stupid, boring!" - And hastily left the hall. The performance was interrupted. About this story reported, without any comments, behaved in the affairs of France, Korberon. We will try to comment.

A replica from the scene unexpectedly hit the point, painfully pricked the fifty-year-old empress, which in no way, who did not want to reconcile with the impending old age and the heart void. The boys were needed by her by themselves. From the correspondence of Catherine, in which it was discussed on the different young favorites, it can be seen that in the mind of the Empress they merge into a single uniform image, endowed with non-existent advantages - those she herself wants to see, to bring up in them, those who are needed for artificial Maintaining the feeling of youth and unfavorable love.

The cost of upbringing "Chernushki" and "Rounds"

Catherine somehow said: "I do a lot of benefit to the state, raising young people." Meanwhile, everything was just the opposite: each new favorite caused a huge damage to the state, because the sovereign was not burned for his "students" for gifts and awards and did not have the habit of selecting after the resignation of the next pet. All relatives of the new favorite immediately fell into the state of non-commissioning euphoria - the bottomless pocket was opened before them, from which the Zlata can be drawn. Here is an approximate estimate of the costs of Alexander Lansky, and did not receive, because of his death: 100 thousand rubles for the wardrobe, a meeting of medals and books, a room in the palace, a government table for twenty people worth 300 thousand rubles. All his relatives received enhancement and rewards. If not an early death, General Annef, and then Feld Marshal general was with the appropriate content, read, from Sasha in his pocket. For the age of three of his Favor, he received 7 million rubles from the sovereign, not counting other gifts, diamond buttons on the parade caftan (worth 80 thousand rubles), two houses in St. Petersburg. All these figures need to be folded and multiplied by at least seven - by the approximate number of "students" Catherine. Plato of the teeth, all his own, and even more than his predecessors.

"Torture yourself over the papers"

During the lifetime of Potemkin, Catherine began to teach a placket to affairs. It did not succeed very well. Peter Zavadovsky Poison wrote about him: "Hears his best to torment himself over the papers, not having a quick mind, no extensive abilities, the burden above his real forces." The teeth were not perfect fool, moreover, it was able to create a kind of clever, deftly and many speaking in French. After the death of Potemkin, his voice all righer, he even began to shout on her noble. His title was so lush, which seemed as if he stole him at Potemkin: "The bright prince of the Roman Empire, General Feldschmeter, Over the fortifications, General Director, Commander-in-Chief of the Fleet of the Black Sea and Azov, and Voskresensky Easy Connection, and the Black Sea Cossack army, General Infanteria, Adjutant General, Chef of the Cavalgard Corps, Ekaterinoslavskaya, Voznesenskaya and Tavrichesky Gubernia Governor, Member of the State Military College, Honorary Charity of the Imperial Educational House, Amateur Academy of Arts. "

He composed projects, rather wild and unfulfilled: about the seizure of Istanbul by the Russian fleet, about the conquest of Berlin and Vienna, on the formation of new states, like a certain Austility. In terms of its nature, the teeth was a typical adaptation: with Catherine, it was reigning against the horrors of the revolution, with Alexandra I went with the constitution in his pocket. The same state, he solved this way: "Do, as before."

With the tooth wise dotol, the sovereign seems to be burned. She agreed to send a "kind boy" Valerian Zudov, going to the east, to Persia and further to India. In 1796, he passed along the path of Peter the Great and took Derbent, and then Baku. Catherine wrote that Valerian did in two months that Peter the Great did in two years, having met resistance more than his great emperor met. In short, one shame and shame!

The influence of the teeth on the empress is associated with the cruel suppression of the Polish uprising, the third section of Poland and the final destruction of the Polish state, the fight against masons, persecution to Novikov, Radishchev. Of course, the essence of the case was not so much in the tooth, but in the sovereign itself, which used to say: "Let one limit, the other is limited, but the sovereign will not be more stupid." Alas, by the end of his life, she began to lose his genius, that self-irony, which always saved her, allowed to look at himself from the side and correct the mistake made. After all, before, when it was turned to the project of conquesting India, she answered with humor: "Russia has enough lands to make no need to go to conquer in India." When she was offered to make the "increment" to the state in North America, she replied that Russia had a lot of their concerns and better to provide America's Indians their own destiny. And now she sent Valerian Zuben to this adventure. Only a decree of Pavlo I who joined the throne stopped a chimeric campaign. Another month - and the body of the Zuba undoubtedly died from hunger and the difficulties of the road.

Balcher Happiness

With the Favor "Fast" to power, the entire clan of the tooth. The father's teeth took bribes, the service successes of the Plato brothers hit the observers, and were filled with them. The famous Suvorov gladly gave his beloved Suworochka for the older brother of Favorita, Nicholas. Only Cesarevich Paul tried to gripe. Somehow, Catherine said to her son: "I see that you agree with the opinion of Prince Zubov." What Paul answered: "Your Majesty, did I say any nonsense?" Everyone sought to please favorite. Derzhavin devoted to him the poems, General Kutuzov cooked him in the morning some special oriental coffee. One of the diplomats said well, "everyone crawled at his legs, so he considered himself great."

But the most vivid description of Plato Zubov: "As the sovereign of its strength, activities, genius, it acquires power, wealth. Each morning, numerous crowds of lets are precipitated its doors, fill the hallway and reception. Old generals, Velmazby were not ashamed to caress his lackers insignificant. We often saw how these lackeys accelerate the generals and officers into the jackets, koi had long been crowded at the door and interfered them to locate them. Flavoring in the chairs, in the most obscene unprecedented, stuck the little finger in the nose, with eyes, aimlessly directed to the ceiling, this young man, with a face cold and inflated, barely honored to pay attention to the surrounding. He was amused by the foolishness of his monkey, which was jumping on the heads of low lests, or talked to his joke. And at this time, the elders, under which he began to serve as a sergeant, - Dolgoruky, Golitsyn, Saltykov and everyone else - expected him to admire his eyes to humiliate to his footsteps. Of all the bauls of happiness, no, except for the zunk, was not so punished and externally, and internally. "

Killer, brother killers

On the death day of Catherine on November 6, 1796, Plato showed extraordinary cowardice and confusion. The death of the Empress seemed to have released all the air from it. As the contemporary wrote, "there was no noticeably emptiness when the teeth disappeared from his place." Pavel who joined the throne did not touch his mother's favorite, but sent him abroad. However, soon the sovereign learned that the teeth began to translate money from Russia abroad, and prescribed to arrest his estates. Plato returned and immediately joined the conspirators, who conceived to get rid of Paul. He together with his brother Nikolai was among the murderers of the emperor on March 11, 1801. When that night, the conspirators broke into the bedroom of Paul I in Mikhailovsky Castle, a platony of the teeth flew ahead. According to one of the versions, the Paul hidden from bed with the bed of shirma. "We are entering," the participant of the attempt was written, "the plato of the teeth runs to bed, he does not find anyone and exclaims in French:" He ran away! " I followed the teeth and saw where the emperor was hidden. " Then suddenly Plato suddenly left the bedroom, and then returned with Valerian's brothers and Nikolai. One of the participants in the murder, Benigsen, recalled: "Paul looked at me, without uttering a word, then turned to the prince to the prince and told him:" Ke Feta Wu, Platon Alexandrovich? "What are you doing, Plato Aleksandrovich?" "You are no more emperor. Alexander our sovereign!" - said the teeth. " Here Paul pushed Nikolai, he hit the emperor, everyone fell on the floor. The end.

Wife for a million

Under Alexandra I, Plato of the teeth expect to take a prominent place, seeking to please the new sovereign, fulfilled good intentions to conduct political reform. The teeth rocked the projects of the state reorganization and even composed the brave draft of the cancellation of serfdom. But, like other conspirators, he did not use any influence from Alexander. From him and his comrades, the sovereign tried to get rid of him.

After these events, Platon Alexandrovich lived almost a quarter of a century. He settled in Lithuania, in the village of Yanishka he had an extensive estate with the castle in the middle. Soon he became famous for an unusually scared landowner. His peasants were the most poor in the district, the prince went to the estate in the most shaded form. Meanwhile, he was one of the richest people in Russia. It is known that the image of a stingy knight, who gets over the Christ, Pushkin wrote off from a real person - Plato Alexandrovich Zubov. Behind the strong locks in the courage of the courage kept the many chests with gold and silver and often descended down to replicate in the still chest cluffed handful of coins. In total, he had more than 20 million rubles in the basement. The greatest pleasure was delivered to open the chests and admire the glitter of gold. True, one day he made one of these chests. In a rural fair, he accidentally saw a nineteen-year-old girl of unearthly beauty. It was the daughter of the local gentry of Fekla Ignatievna Valentinovich. She did not want to go for the old, ugly screaming. And then the teeth actually bought it from his father, giving him a million rubles in gold.

He died in another castle in Kurlyandia in 1822, leaving behind his beautiful widow and complete indifference of contemporaries who have already forgotten about the once powerful favorite of Catherine Great. He was buried in the family tomb of the tooth-high blue church in the Trinity-Sergius Desert, which is in Strelna, next to the road, on which he traveled with the sovereign to Peterhof. During the years of revolution, the church was ruined, and the dust of the last favorite of the Great Empress has long been extended by the wind ...

A. S. Pushkin. Notes on Russian history of the XVIII century

…Autumn. Early autumn. Already drowned by the first chalodes. Towing a thick copper top of trees. Fuling with a stal fold pond. Frozen in the solemn and reassured gold sunset sphinxes on a small granite pier. Water smooth will not get drowned. And in the silence of the outgoing evening, slim, decorated with noses of ships - Rostrith - Obelisk in memory of a long-standing military victory, after which there were so many wars, battles, good luck and failure. The woman who stopped on the shore is also a non-native and also bends towards her sunset. Tightly smelted, coated from the cold Blue Salop still emphasizes a bluish shade. An intricate, of lace and ribbons, a hat resembles the pastie. But the hand is already hard on the meeting, and the faceted face, a little touched by a shadow of an indifferent smile, speaks about fatigue, extinguished his eyesathing, a heavy breakdown of an eyebrow arc over the swelling centuries. The beginning of the 1790s. Otherwise, the "teeth". The portrait of the Great Empress of the brush is still not known to anyone, who has just come to the capital of the artist Vladimir Lukich Borovikovsky. Written without an order. The assumption that the idea of \u200b\u200ban unusual - "home" - portrait was proposed by the poet and architect Nikolai Lvov, remains just an assumption. In fact, N. A. Lvov is far from being so close to the Empress, in order to optistive a unlucky provincial artist, but he is familiar with the situation at the courtyard to know how Catherine's capriciously, Ekaterina. And the point is not in some kind of mandatory idealization - Catherine is too smart to want to look on the canvas by the personification of beauty. But it absolutely necessary for her in accordance with it, in the way she formed for himself, and who remained true to all his life - a benevolent, internally peaceful, filled with infinite condescension to the human weaknesses of the self-catering. And yet - that the wave increases over the years - the desire to wonder the sickness of himself in irreversible youth. She comes to power in his thirty years old, when the real youth is already behind: at the age of thirty four, they talk about a boyfood - not about youth. However, in the earliest years, it did not differ neither attractiveness or freshness. Empress Elizabeth Petrovna, who self-erased his daughter-in-law, could gladly teach himself over a drunken, a small increase, the long-axis of the Grand Duchess with her yellowish sulfuge and impossible for rumor Russian. The glory of the queen and the first beauty of his own yard did not threaten. From where it was a fun and cheerful Elizabeth to know how many lessons, and how quickly removes the palace from the life of the unloved great princess, what a dirty student will be! Time brought to her completeness and wellness, everyday wipes with ice - excellent color of the face spent in the mirror hours - an impeccable verbal ability to use each expression, every movement of the obedient bodies. The watch and reading days aloud taught the Russian language, in which the weak shadow of the former accent appeared only in minutes of strong unrest. She was not called the actress "because she was too big actress, - with unshakable persistence of fanatic self-confidence to the" highest destination ". Frank hostility of the Empress-aunt, reaching in the last years of his rule to the thought of expulsion from Russia for the great princess. Disgusting of her husband, as frank in his dream about divorce and marriage on the official favorite, B. R. Vorontsova. Nine-year-old Waiting for the child - the heir, without which the position of the Great Princess became the day from the day more and more shaky. The wary hostility sensitively responded on the mood of the monarchy of the courtiers, who did not understand the infinite book classes, or smart conversations, or the freedom, with which the Great Princess, was looking for society of young and doubting courts.

Platon Alexandrovich Zubov was born in 1767 in the family of provincial nobles. He was one of four sons. The father of Zubet managed the estate of Field Marshal Saltykov, who further influenced the fate of Plato. At 22, he entered the service in the Guards Regiment. Special talents, the young man did not differ, did not perform the feats, and in the career stairs, moved thanks to influential patrons.

In 1789, Plato, being a rothmistrome of the equestrian army, persuaded the bosses to give him the command of the convoy, who accompanied Catherine II from St. Petersburg to the royal village. A 22-year-old attractive young man tried to draw attention to himself and he succeeded.

The Empress, who was previously shown for the age of 60, became interested in teeth. He was invited for lunch, and soon she took the chambers of the former Favorite Alexander Dmitreva-Mamonov. This was the last passion of Catherine Great. Their relationship lasted 7 years before the death of the Empress.

Vanity for - Core for the sake

Portrait of Prince Plato Aleksandrovich Zudova - I. B. Lampy 1802

Plato, being Favorite Catherine II, from the first days tried to participate in state affairs. Without special abilities, he held 36 posts. The teeth was appointed General Governor, participated in the meetings of the Academy of Arts and the College of Foreign Affairs, led the fleet and artillery. The Empress did not regret the awards for a pet, only in 1790 he was awarded the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky, the Order of St. Anne, the orders of the Black and Red Orlov, the Polish Order of St. Stanislav and the White Eagle.

Taking advantage of the attachment of Catherine, Plato displaced from state and personal affairs even her long-standing advisor Gregory Potemkin. Rapping power, the young man distributed mercy. All the relatives of the tender began to occupy government positions, bribery flourished.

After the death of Gregory Potemkin in 1791, the last favorite of Catherine Great Platon's teeth took the post of governor of the Novorossiysk Territory. In this place, he became a landmark man for Odessa. Joseph de Ribas decided to take advantage of the prostate of the teeth, which was so close to the state treasury. De Ribas actively knocks out financing for a newborn city. Plato uncontrollands uses stateless money and everything comes off his hands.

On May 13, 1794, he appoints Joseph to distribute land plots and issue permits for settlements. On September 2, the first foundation of the house at the corner of the current streets of Langeronovskaya and Richelevskaya was laid. On the same day laid the marina and the harbor for rowing vessels. On May 27, 1794, Catherine orders to open a city for merchant vessels and make it shopping.

Platon of teeth is incredibly rich, while it was in favorites. His condition was calculated by millions, not to mention real estate. He had a huge effect on an aging empress. By the end of her rule, he borrowed and indecently a great title.

After the death of Empress

On November 6, 1796, Catherine was died great and with her the Golden Epoch for Russia. The first of the death of the Empress was told Platon, and he disappeared from the palace for 10 days. With the death of patroness, teeth understood that it was over and his time. Aside to the throne Paul I, Scelled Plato abroad, depriving all positions, ranks and real estate. But in 1800, the emperor settled over him and allowed to return to his homeland. The tooth was returned part of the property and even appointed director of the first cadet corps. What was the gratitude of the Zubet? He rose among the participants in the conspiracy against Paul I and personally attended his murder.

The light prince, Favorit Catherine II. Thanks to him, one of the buildings of the Catherine Palace is called.

Before imagining the idyllic picture of a walk through the Tsarskoye Selo Park of the Great Empress and her young favorite, it is worth answering a few questions. The image of the last favorite and the entire family of tooths for many years was sharply negative, but now it is worth checking well-established judgments.

The first question is why the "last favorite" was really the last, despite the attempts of the most powerful people, including Potemkin, by rumors, her secret husband, remove Plato Zubov, "snatch" this interfere with many "tooth"? Why did their connection lasted almost eight years (there was longer; only "marital" c) and maybe it would continue to continue, if it were not for the sudden end of Catherine Great?

Recall the beginning - just played the last act of the performance with, where Catherine led himself as the rulers never behaved. She allowed the beloved to marry a young girl, Shcherbataya Freillan, whom he suddenly loved himself. The young received the dowry and generous gifts, and the only thing that, according to rumors, allowed himself an offended empress, it is to prick the bride with a pin when she sacrificed her custom, the elegant hairstyle of the bride with diamonds. Then the young went to Moscow.

But how should Ekaterina feel like? She seemed to himself abandoned, old, thought it was possible to be with her for money or honors, that she probably simply bought the attachment of young people. And this is she who confessed to "confession", which can not be for a minute without love! The most black despair has come. Several times noted in his diary that the empress "cries" at night.

It brandschitis only the most faithful girlfriend, (nee Rumyantsev, a commander's niece) "about which in the" notes "of Catherine wrote that" our fate is similar. " Anna Nikitichna condemned Mamonov, once even cruelly "crushed" him, about which Catherine mentioned in letters. And now the devotee of Freilin advises Catherine, according to the prescription John Khmelevskaya, to knock out "Wedge Wedge", and the words of Lope de Vega so that the "soul to cure the sick", hesitate her "another love." She represents Catherine of the young officer Platon Zubov, who has long been in love with it: in the spring of 1789 teeth was sent at the head of the Connogvardee detachment, accompanying Catherine II to the royal village; Invited to dinner and approximate Empress Catherine II.

This "love" caused greater doubts from the court surroundings "Starting from Khorchavitsky and Garnenovsky, in the" notes "released an echidial note:" Anna Nikitichna (Naryshkin. - T. I.) assured and assures that the teeth are in love with death, and this is very Much contributes to his well-being ... "

Courtful treated the situation as a collision from the Moliere, but there is a question. One of the main advantages of Catherine was the ability to recognize people, this did not deny the biggest enemies, no wonder the monuments are created in the brilliant surroundings of talented figures, which she allowed to prove himself. And now there is already a fairly experienced woman and the government for eight years gave him to circle himself around the finger with a young Connovardian? I never felt falsehood, did not doubt? Until now, some skeptical historians, like Evgeny Anisimov, are attributed to the elder degradation of the empress (but what was manifested?), Say, so was enthusiastic, which did not see anything and did not hear.

Now, when the whole biography of Plato Aleksandrovich Zudova is well known to me, the graph, then the bright prince, I want to believe the wise Anna Nikitichna Naryshkina. It seems that all his life he loved only Catherine, he married it very late, when a legitimate heir was clearly needed, he died a month before the birth of a daughter, the bright princesses Alexandra, lived secluded, "the recording of his conversations with their managers, published inaccurately and fragmentary. Judging by them, he and shortly before his death spoke only about her, his Empress.

And what is Catherine? What could have been involved in this young man? He did not differ in incredible beauty. "Although it was good, his numerous portraits of the brush lamp and others give evidence to this. Notic to his sad, "Volterovskaya" smile. His younger brother "Cheerful Valerian, according to admission, was beautiful. And how many attempts from the side "at least Potemkin, send someone younger, even more effectively? One such case turned into a joke (a well-known story about how Potemkin sent a beautiful young man to Catherine to "show". The Empress carefully examined and brought a picture, and a young man, and asked to convey to the brighter that "Painting is good, but Feelings are missing. "). If you believe in the "old depravation" of the Great Empress, which prevented her after a 22-year-old Plato to find 18 years old and so on? Suppose that Catherine appreciated the sincere feeling of a young man, she liked not only his education, but also readiness to learn further. In addition, he had something insanely annoyed courtly, but it was necessary to Empress - a big and friendly family.

If we consider the biography of Catherine, then it can be seen "that she needed not only the state of" love ", but she sought his whole life to a family circle. The relatives of the beloved favorite became her family, so it was with Orlovy, so it was with Potemkin. So it became with teeth.

By age, the brothers of the tooth organically entered the "younger yard", that is, the great princes of Alexander and Konstantin, with whom Catherine loved spending time. The constant discontent of the "Elder Court", her son Paul and Maria Fedorovna, for all it was painful. It was in this circle that the engagement and wedding of the older brother Nikolai Zubov and the wedding and the wedding of the middle brother Dmitry Zubov and his daughter, Freskovy Alexandrovna, and the wedding of the younger brother Valerian and the beauty of Mary Fyodorovna Pototsk (nee Lubovyir) were celebrated.

So, the first mention of Plato Zudov in letters to the grimme refers to the royal village and dates from September 1790 "Correcting about the heroism of the ancients and that modern heroes would have to imitate them, and to do this, read the ancient writers, - Ekaterina added: Want to know What kind of teeth g [ospodin] and I did this summer in the royal village in free watches with the thunder of the guns? Well, here is our secret: we translated Tom Plutarch into Russian. But we were calm and happy during the Besyatitsa. In addition, he read Polybia. "

Let's start with the fact that the thunder of the guns was not festive. War was walking with Sweden, whose king promised to throw from the Thunder of the Great, created Falcone, and put his statue on the pedestal. Cannon shots were well audible in St. Petersburg, and even better in the royal village.

In addition, the Empress was engaged in the classic formation of a young man. It is important "that the student has fastened an ancient story from different sources: comparative lives of great people and chronologically consistent courses. By the way, Polybia Plato could read both Russian.

Tsarsko Snakes

The author of the next mention of Platon Zubne in the royal village is no one else like. The poet dedicated a young favorite poem "for moderation", 1792 in the manuscript during the title attributed "to ***", and by definition of commentators (in particular, A. Gukovsky), should be read "to [Platon] tooth."

In the poem, the poet uttered a certain declaration of independence approximately to the strong world of this. In the first stanza, commentators saw the nuances of the relationship of Derzhavin with Empress Catherine, stroke hints on Potemkin "But the final was directly addressed to the tooth:

But Glory and Love Prolel

You are only virtue.

Look and hell, although b through the boors

Fortunes became ahead,

Do not completely descend malicious snakes from the tower

And, looking at the sky, do not fall;

Keep better than the middle

And the neighbor is good creating;

For tomorrow fortresses from the fate

Powerless to take kings themselves.

There is time - this, it is turned;

Last will not come back.

At least whose soul is honest, courtesy,

At least someone who is smart

But since moderation is useful

And those who are glorious captive!

Able to be without resentment,

Osanist, hard, but not proud;

We decide without speed, calm,

Without tricky Catcher Hearts;

Opiva in a clear sail to the lazore,

Claim them do not face and in a bore.

"All these are kind quality," noticed Derzhanin, "he had an indisputable prince of teeth." But we are interested in "malicious snakes" that the destination of the verse "allowed from the towers." In a biographical essay, dedicated to the tooth, published in "Russian Sturdy", this line was given such a comment: "Teeth, then a former graph and prince, the favorite of the Empress, sometimes after dinner did this children's game, descending paper snakes from the Tsarskosiel towers. This children's game, according to the naive remark of Derzhavin, was nothing more than the experiments of the Zube over the extraction of air electricity, produced by the example of Franklin, Bekcaria, Prondeavy, etc. | Ugim], through paper coils, bathed with Patal. Of all the entertainment Plato Aleksandrovich in his bright minutes, which he had much more than those busy, "this Children's game" was almost the most harmless occupation, which in the hands of more skillful, could be helpful. "

Perhaps in the XIX century. Running snakes turned into a children's game, but in the XVIII century. It was a serious and very dangerous occupation. Lomonosov's physicist Richman died as a result of experiments with atmospheric electricity, but the metal pole mounted on the roof, from which a murderer's ball lightning arose, carried out the same role as the famous "Serpent Franklin", and the same task - Collect heavenly electricity. It is curious that modern American researchers found that when Franklin launched a snake in a cloud, even without hitting it in it, he collected so many charges that it was deadly, and if the experience had passed as a scientist described him, the investigation would be his death. The fact that the teeth also engaged in experiments with electricity, and not just entertained, says pasting snakes "Patal", actually "Pottal", that is, sheets of metals or alloys imitating gold (for example, copper with zinc or silver with aluminum) .

But why did Platon Alexandrovich betrayed this fascinating, beautiful, but such a dangerous lesson? It is interesting here is the testimony left by Karlik Favorite, Ivan Andreevich Yakubovsky. Here is one of the few mention of Catherine in his peculiar memoirs: "Now, the ninety-six-year-old Samoylov gave ball for the empress, and she was on his ball. But what happened here on this day! Unusually, wonders of nature. It was said as soon as the empress will sit in the carriage, immediately let the rocket; But instead of a rocket, the largest meteor flew out of the door and flew through the Admiralty to Vasilyevsky Island; At first, the people thought that the rocket, rushed and began to shout: Hooray! Cheers cheers! But after they saw that it was a snake, began to shout: Amen, Amen, Amen. The Empress herself saw and said to the bright prince Platon Alexandrovich that "this is, I notice, I don't see any extraordinary one for now." I myself was here and saw, but when I went out of the house, I saw him as he rose to Izmailovsky Place. "From the text it is unclear whether there is a fall in a meteorite, or about the comet flown, but it is obvious that Catherine, a sober-minded student of Voltaire, was afraid, like her predecessor of Elizabeth," Heavenly Signs ". Perhaps Plato's experiences were the goal Somehow soothe these fears, "believe the algebra of harmony," to prove the natural origin of shocking heavenly cataclysms.

Tsarskostsky "Roman"

Many retell this history, but its most extensive description is contained in memories, and each of the historical characters was given a certain comic role.

Beautiful summer of 1794 in the royal village. "There was no end to pleasures. The Empress tried to make the royal village as pleasant as possible. Invented to run in a meadow in front of the palace. There were two camps: and distinguished with the help of pink and blue flags with silver, embroidered on them initials. As it was supposed, I belonged to Alexander's camp. The Empress and Persons Nonigars sat on the bench against the alley, bonded meadow.

Before you start running, the Great Princess Elizabeth hung her hat on the flag. She barely touched the earth, before it was ease; The air played her hair. She was ahead of all the ladies. She admired and could not be enough to look at her [...] Prince Platon's teeth took part in the games. Grace and Charm made a strong impression on him somehow in the evening, during the game, the Grand Duke Alexander came to us, took me and the great princess for his hands and said:
- Teeth are in love with my wife.

These words pronounced in her presence, very upset me. I said that for such a thought there can be no reason, and added that if the teeth are capable of such madness, it would be necessary to despise him and not to pay for anything the slightest attention. But it was too late: these ill-fated words have already crushed the heart of the Grand Duchess. She was confused, and I felt unhappy and stayed in anxiety: nothing could be more useless and dangerous than letting a young woman feeling that should be offended by it. "

Tie action. An insulted noble husband, an offended noble spouse, a dishonest seducer and the author who accepts the role of the main hand of the heroine. The last brave destroys all the intrigues of the seducer, who "in the dreamability, constantly threw ... Tomny glances that he endured on the great princess."

"Soon the unfortunate hobby of the Zube was known to the entire Tsarist Sel." And that's what is strange, all the courtiers helped him together. "... The attorney tooth and his spies began to try to act on me. ... I was surrounded by a whole legion of enemies, but a clear conscience gave me strength, and I was so imbued with my attachment to Elisabeth Alekseevna, which instead of worrying, doubled her efforts and, if you can put it, it became more confident. "

"Somehow in the morning, walking alone in the garden, I met Shawelberg's graph. He came up and spoke to me hurriedly and friendly, as it was always done with those who wanted to have a location.
"My friend, dear Countess," he said, "the more I see this delightful psyche, the more losing my head!" She is incomparable, but I will make a drawback.
- Tell me what, I ask you.
- Her heart is not sensitive enough. She creates so much unfortunate, and does not appreciate the most delicate feelings, respectful attention.
- Who is?
- the one who is guarding it.
- You are crazy, dear graph, and you know badly. Go to the Countess Shuvalova: She will understand you better, and know once and for all that weakness is as far from the heart of Psyche, how your words bordered with lowness.
After graduating from these words, I raised my eyes on the windows of the Zubet Rooms and saw it on the balcony. Taking Shatenberg at hand, I led him to him.
"This young man crazy," I said. - Tell blood more quickly. Waiting for this I allow you to ask him in detail about our conversation "

As a seducer, Countess Shuvalov, she wanted to bring Elizabeth Alekseevna to the meadow, where the teeth had to "give Serenada from his window," in order to "her presence served as the approval of the feeling of Zubet," but the intelligent Freillus led the heroine for a walk. Then the seducer wanted to convince the Great Princess French romance of ambiguous content, but the brave goluve destroyed this insidious plan and sang the first verse several times, passing the second, replete with hints. Then the tireless villain considered the Great Princess from its window with the help of a telescope, but here a virtuous inapproval of the curtain pins of the curtains and thereby prevented insidious views.

The junction of this protracted intrigue was supposed to make Dues Ex Machina - God from the car whose role was performed by the Empress.

Now the junction is intercourse as follows: "It is not known who conveyed Catherine II about the unacceptable love of her personal property, but, having learned, she so managed to put the favorite that an extraordinary love was instantly".

In this story a lot of incomprehensible. First, why Platon of teeth so openly cared for Elizabeth Alekseevna and almost all the courtiers helped him? He had to hide his passion, as Dmitriev-Mamonov's love for Shcherbatova. And why do you know about this "passion", except for the supposedly empress? And why the passion "instantly" disappears - Catherine should not only be angry, but to be just in rage from this betrayal, but nothing like this happens. And most importantly, why the object of this cunning courtship, Elizabeth Alekseevna herself, so friendly and sympathetically mentioned Plato Zubet in their very frank and personal letters to the mother? (In letters, the August correspondents called him "Zodiac").

So a version can be true, which he retracted with indignation and immediately refuted the virtuous alternate of this comedy: "Let me put one thinking here. The slanders managed to convince several despicable people who could believe evil, as if Empress Catherine encouraged the passion of Zudda to the Great Princess Elisavet, because she did not have children, her grandson did not have children, and she wanted them to appear by anything. " After all, if you turn to the letters of Catherine to Grimma, then on December 7, 1792, the letter about "born love" Alexander and his bride she finished: "I hope that you will read this diploma in eight years when it comes to the children of Alexander" . And then several times wrote about the expected heirs of his beloved grandson.

The simplest explanation of the refutation: Moralist Golovin never read the famous memoirs of Catherine, of which it becomes clear that she once was once in the position of Great Princess Elizabeth Alekseevna, and even in more difficult, since her spouse had no brothers. She was handed over to the words of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna, that the child should be, no matter how, and then offered to choose between Saltykov and another cavalier. Catherine probably believed that it was not so important who would be a biological father of the heir of the Russian throne, and if so, why not give the ZSU the opportunity to his beloved young man, who she could no longer give a child? Well, if the jealousy of the wife, the Grand Duke Alexander will give these courtship, whose appeal to the young wife already caused condemnation, and resurrect the fooling feelings of both? Plato of the teeth who participated in the palace performances and the writing of the plays could play a great role in an organized comedy. And then he had the opportunity to open the heroine and stay with her in beautiful and friendly relations.

Memories of the Tsarskoil Halls

The last plot of the essay is presumptive. But some coincidences seem to be the author not random.

So, after death in 1804 and the burial in the Trinity-Sergius Desert, the Family Council of the Graphs of Teeth gathered by all the beloved brother of Valerian to share his inheritance. On him, Plato asked himself the estate of Runda, located south of the city of Riga, complained by Empress Valerian after his heavily injured in Poland, in 1794 (the cannonic core touched the leg to the young general). The estate once belonged to the Duke of Biron, and "was probably considered as an important part of the family herb, since the elements of the Biron coat of arms were included in the graph coat of arms of the tooth. Palace in Randal built a young F.-B. Rastrelli, and probably the "last favorite" he reminded about the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, and the beautiful Tsarskoye complex.

The Rundale Palace is now in a state of restoration, and it is sometimes difficult for employees to determine how the owner should be attributed to the decor of a certain festive hall. But here is the descriptions of Catherine itself: "Tsarsko-Selician garden ... becomes the only one in its kind. I'm not talking about the rooms ... I write to you in the Cabinet of massive silver, minted with a pattern of red leaves; Four columns with the same pattern maintain a mirror that serves a canopy sofa, a bright green matter with silver of the Moscow product; The walls consist of mirrors with which silver pilasters with the red leaves serve as Ramami ... This cabinet is very luxurious ... I have a white and blue glass, and the pattern on them is from Arabeskov. " It is worth comparing the verbal portrait of the first hall with fragments of the silver finish of the Rundale chambers, and the second description is with a charming cabinet-tobacker, to possibly make sure "memories of the royal village" visited not only our first poet.
